This puts all of the employees at risk of being prosecuted for tax evasion, but companies have always been able to change deduction statuses on the W-9 or W-4. I forgetโฆ. I tried that a long time ago, but I wasnโt making that much money. I was working for Michaelโs Craft Store when I was 17 years old, and I could get away with it, but you can change your deductions from zero up to eight. I chose the eight because I wanted to see what it would do when I was only making $5.25 an hour, so it wasnโt that big of a deal, and I only did it for a short time because I didnโt have a car. When I realized that the difference in deductions on $5.25 wasnโt that much money, I changed it back to where I started selecting zero deductions.
