Yes, defects in the Medtronic SynchroMed II pump can cause severe underdoses or overdoses, which can lead to paralysis and other serious neurological complications. Several lawsuits and recalls have been initiated due to these issues.
How defects can lead to paralysis
Inflammatory mass (granuloma) = THIS LEAD TO VARIOUS MASSES LOCATED on RIGHT SIDE OF BODY, including ONE ON MY CAROTID ARTERY FROM DAY ONE and still there, just not as bad as it was with it in my body that caused RIGHT ARM PARALYSIS!
An inflammatory mass of tissue can form at the tip of the catheter in the intrathecal space of the spine, which can result in neurological damage, including paralysis.
The formation of this mass can also block medication delivery, causing underdosing.
Overdose THIS LEAD TO VARIOUS INSTANCES of RANDOM PARALYSIS EDISODES that FAMILY & FRIENDS witnessed firsthand the whole 8.5 YEARS, and still remnants of paralysis to this day as of 09/04/2025, with brain swelling intermittent and a referral for CRANIAL NUEROSURGERY from OMEIS, MD to repair disconnected C5-C^ Neck plate from APRIL 18, 2013 against HOTEL CHAINS and DR. Refill errors: During the pump refill process, there is a risk of a "pocket fill," which is when medication is accidentally injected into the area under the skin where the pump is implanted, rather than into the pump's reservoir. This can lead to a significant overdose. (INTENTIONALLY SABOTAGED and the FBI KNOWS IT ALL)
Software and motor defects: Recalled pumps were found to have a software problem that could cause an unintended and rapid release of medication during a priming bolus procedure. This was followed by a period of reduced drug delivery, creating both overdose and underdose risks.
Motor stall and restart: Some devices experienced a motor stall, and when the motor suddenly restarted, it could deliver an unusually high dose of medication.
Paralysis from overdose: In one instance, a patient was paralyzed after a software malfunction caused a massive baclofen overdose. Overdoses can also cause severe respiratory depression, coma, or death.

Motor stall: Internal component failures, including a motor that stalls or seizes due to manufacturing defects or foreign particles, can cause a sudden cessation of therapy.
Catheter problems: The catheter can kink, become blocked, or tear, interrupting the flow of medication.
Symptoms of withdrawal: An abrupt stop in therapy can cause severe withdrawal symptoms. For patients using baclofen to treat spasticity, this withdrawal can result in a life-threatening condition and other neurological problems. Lawsuits have been filed by patients alleging injuries from baclofen withdrawal caused by pump failure.
History of recalls and legal action
FDA recalls: The SynchroMed II pump has been subject to multiple Class I recalls by the FDA, the most serious type of recall, for issues that could cause severe injury or death.
Consent decree: In 2015, Medtronic entered into a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice to halt the manufacturing and distribution of new SynchroMed II pumps until it addressed FDA-mandated corrections.
Lawsuits: Medtronic has faced numerous lawsuits alleging harm caused by pump failures, including claims of overdose, underdose, and resulting neurological injuries like paralysis. The company has reached settlements to resolve some of these claims.
